Canned Heat is another name for Sterno, a flammable waxy product used to cook outdoors. Sometimes it was also referred to as "Squeeze" . Long ago it was abused by poor people to get high.

about

Many of the songs on this album were made in the style of the old "Jug Bands" of the 20's, and 30's that played around the south eastern United States. Catfish John spent several years hitch-hiking and touring all over the south playing music at festivals and jamming with many musicians ranging from blues to old time string band and cajun styles. Some of the songs on this album were collected during his travels through the southeast. The songs are played on acoustic instruments primarily such as guitar, dobro, harmonica, kazoo, fiddle, washboard, banjo, and mandolin. The music that developed in the south eastern United States has influenced many musicians including, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Grateful Dead, and many more. Of course it is the home of the blues, which later gave birth to rock and roll.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

A jug band is a band employing a jug player and a mix of traditional and home-made instruments. These home-made instruments are ordinary objects adapted to or modified for making of sound, like the washtub bass, washboard, spoons, bones, stovepipe, and comb & tissue paper (kazoo). The term jug band is loosely used in referring to ensembles that also incorporate home-made instruments but that are more accurately called skiffle bands, spasm bands, or juke (or jook) bands (see juke joint) because they are missing the required jug player.
