about

This album features Catfish John playing his "steel guitar". This type of guitar has a very unique sound and is known as a resophonic or dobro style guitar. It is mechanically amplified and has a spun aluminum speaker cone inside to project the sound. It was the guitar of choice for the old delta blues masters because it is very loud in addition to it's special tone.

Often people will play with a "slide" on a finger of the left hand which produces a singing sound on a string. This guitar is actually made out of brass with a chrome plating and not steel. The term "steel guitar" is misunderstood often. It actually refers to any guitar that is played with a slide or "steel" bar. It is more of a style of playing or a technique rather than what the guitar is made of.
