Catfish John

Catfish John ( John Tisdell ) got his "stage name" given to him when his long time friend Richard Baker saw him swimming in an algae covered pond in North Carolina. Richard thought he looked like a catfish coming up out of the pond with algae covering his body and long hair and beard. Since he knew the song "Catfish John" by the Grateful Dead he started calling him that and the nick- name stuck.
